Review of the film "saw: spiral". Teeth are covered and handle broken

The first films in long franchises are often very different from their many sequels. This is especially true for horror: "Nightmare on Vyamy Street" , "Friday 13th" , "Rebel from hell" – Full examples. The same story with "Saw". James Van's original film is a gloomy psychological thriller about the impossibility of choosing two evils. It was based on not cunning traps and not a bloody dissection, but the horror and hopelessness of Triumph Casino sister sites the situation in which the main characters found themselves. But in the sequels “saw” and indeed with her head ducked into a pure all -payer, becoming the main series for lovers of the so -called “torture porn”. The victims multiplied, the tramps became more complicated, plot turns, on the contrary, became absurd, and the franchise itself slowly but surely exhaled. A couple of years ago they tried to restrack her gently, but neither the fees nor the assessment of critics showed special growth.

And then Suddenly, Kris Rock came from nowhere-one of the most popular comedians in America-and said that, firstly, for many years it fan from the “saw”, and secondly, he knows how to return her former glory. Well, an attempt is not torture. Or…

After the gloss of the eighth part of the “saw” returns to its companyly dirty-rusty style. Fans of the series this will surely please

Zik Banks – a seasonal, fundamental and unbearably stubborn detective. What is not surprising, because he is the son of one of the most famous and respected cops of New York. To get out of his father’s shadow, he has to work hard to the maximum, although the environment does not contribute to this. A few years ago, ZIK laid the authorities of the corrupt colleague and became an outcast in his own site, because the unwritten law states that it is impossible to go against their own, no matter how scoundrels are those. In general, the life of the detective Banks was already not easy, and then the designer of the designer declared war on the police. And for some reason, he chose Zika with the addressee of his terrible messages.

In the original name of the film in the first place is the word “spiral”, and “saw” is attributed below with small print. And this is right, because before us is not a sequel and not rebut, namely, spin-off. It feels the influence of the original series, there are references to it and even sounds the famous musical theme of Charlie Clauser, but in shape and content this is another movie. Also very secondary, but already in its own way.

In the context of the franchise, all innovation "Spiral" consists in the transition to the genre of detective thriller. Yes, there were always traces in the “saw”, and they even collected some evidence, calculated something, but all this was secondary to the main thing: the next game of the designer or his students. It was the victims remained in the spotlight, even if none of them, after the first part, did not particularly claim the title of a full -fledged character. “Spiral” changes the alignment – she has a real protagonist who even has a chance to catch the killer. And spectators, respectively, should for some time to root for the detective.

Chris Rock took the role of Zika Banks, and watching him on the screen is really interesting. He is charismatic and obviously burning the project, and therefore tries to play a cool detector-bunter as reliably as capable. It turns out with varying success, especially in emotional scenes, where the hero should have, say, a nervous breakdown – there the rock clearly rests on his acting ceiling. It is impossible not to notice how much more confident and organically he plays out rare comedy episodes (yes, there are such). Still, it’s so easy not to get out of the usual role.

In the role of Father Zika Banks, Samuel L himself appears. Jackson. And although it is obvious that the character was written specifically under the actor, anyone could play a smaller caliber

Chris Rock also brought the idea to the "saw". Rather, the idea. Him through his efforts, Category B Horror spoke on such a serious and painful theme as a police arbitrariness. It is noteworthy, racial and gender questions “Spiral” at the same time tactfully bypasses: Banks’s colleagues are not all white, and in the commissar’s chair the completely sultry Latin American – and everyone has a stigma in a cannon. Speaking of a stigma: a pig of the mask, which flickered in a “saw” from the first part, has overgrown with additional meaning, because pigs have been called pigs for centuries for centuries. Now the maniac does not punish individual burners of life, but goes to the Crusade of the Institute of Power. This is uncharacteristic for the series, but that is the essence: if the students of John Kramer, the original designer, tried to copy their guru in everything, creating the illusion of his immortality, the imitator in the “spiral” from the very beginning goes its own way. He has a different voice, a different image and other goals. The traps, by the way, are also different: more primitive, brutal than execution, rather than a rebirth through pain there. At least two scenes of executions in the Spiral are able to impress even the Guro's seasonal lovers – the creators did not pace the blood and anatomical details. But the master plan and the motivation of the new designer are so banal that his late inspirer would only win from contempt, after which he would have put a mask-kapkan mask on a negligent student, so that it would be disgraced to disgrace a loud name. Loud slogans and obvious parallels with many real tragedies, the creators hung a plot worthy of an episode of the second -bit procedure.

Begining as a relatively intriguing detective, the “spiral” quickly bury all the successful ideas under a ton cliche with a straight of the thrillers of the 90s. Any example will be, in fact, a spoiler, because the killer can not only be calculated in the first half an hour-he is the main and almost the only suspect in the eyes of any any kind of audience. I don’t even want to believe this: you hope that the creators only distract attention, but, alas … when in the finale a familiar musical theme from the tips scattered from the film, it seems undeserved. “Oh, give up, no twist happened – no one is surprised!"It's a shame, because even the worst of the" saw "managed to catch the viewer by surprise at least a little.

“Spiral”, apparently, was supposed to return the franchise to the basics, that is, to the conceptual thriller, where sadistic traps are only part of the surroundings, and not the main attraction. But in the end it turned out and did not “drink” at all, but rather tracing paper from the film "Seven" 1995 – an exemplary and at the same time completely postmodern thriller about the fishing of a serial killer. Only now Darren Lynn Bowman is definitely not David Fincher, but Chris Rock, with all the variety of his talents, not Brad Pitt at all. Like its central antagonist, a “spiral” is a pretentious imitator who lacks any subtlety, no depth, nor a sense of style of his idol.
